Fun at the Beach with Seashells

One of the things this summer that you can do is go to the beach and collect seashells. There is a lot you can learn about seashells.

What are seashells? The animal inside a seashell is called a mollusk. The seashell is the skeleton of the animal that lives in it. People have skeletons inside their body and mollusks have skeletons outside their body. They are like turtles.

Seashells come in different sizes, colors, and shapes. Some have holes and some even look like macaroni. A lot of seashells have stripes. 

There are two types of seashells. A univalve is just one piece. A bivalue is like a sandwich with two shells that are connected to each other. Did you know that?

Seashells start the size of a tiny grain of rice. Then they grow as the mollusk gets bigger.

Shells are different colors because of what they eat and sometimes their colors is camouflage to protect themselves. They are many colors, as pink, white, purple, gray, brown, black, orange, and clear.

Seashells are shiny because of the way the animal lives. The shiny ones are the ones that the animal comes out of its shell and rubs against it's shell.

Over time when a rock is formed, sometimes there are seashells and the shape of the seashell forms into the rock. You can also find fossels of seashells at the beach.

There is a lot of fun things that you can make out of seashells. 

If you find trash at the beach, you can bring a trash bag and put it in the bag.  This will help keep the beach clean for other people to have fun too!!
