The facts about Dermal Fillers

i wrote in the past about botox and dysport. Today I'll tell you about dermal fillers. As we age we begin to lose tissue in our body. You really notice it in the face as what once held up our cheeks is now hanging low giving us the nasal labial folds from our nose to our mouth. Our jowls in our cheeks begin to show also. As we age our bones begin to be absorbed and you can see this in the orbital rims giving us what we call "tear troughs" under the eyes. And our cheek bones begin to flatten from the absorbsion. Our profile begins to change in the chin area as the bones start to be absorbed and now we have a broken profile. I call this area "the thumbprint" as you can put your thumb in the space. As botox and dysport stop the muscles from making crowsfeet or those 11's between our eyes, dermal fillers soften our looks and keep us from looking so hagard. I love to give someone that youthful look back by using dermal filler to fill their cheeks. This can help someone look 10 years younger. When we look at someone we can't help but follow lines. If your lines from you nose to your mouth point to the floor then that is where our eye follows. If you have jowls pointing to the floor, same thing. When you restore someones cheeks, it brings the eye back to the face, especially the persons eyes. Cheeks lift the folds off the nose and lift the jowls up as well.

I work with 2 kinds of dermal fillers. The first type of dermal fillers are the Hyaluronic Acid fillers. They are Restylane, Juvaderm Ultra, Perlane, Juvaderm Ultra Plus. Hylauronic Acid is in every human and animal tissue. This is why these products are not permanent. Our body recognizes it and eventually breaks it down. When I get injections in my knees it is Hyaluronic Acid that my Doctor injects.

Resylane and Juvaderm Ultra I love to use for fine lines, under the eyes and the lips.The FDA states this product lasts six months. I have seen it last longer.

Perlane and Juvaderm Ultra Plus are more robust and I love to use them for mild to moderate tissue volume losses.

The second type of dermal filler I call the " Lamborghini" of dermal fillers,  is in a class by itself. Radiesse. Ahh sweet Radiesse. It is made of calcium hydroxyapatite which are micro speres of calcium that when injected our body builds collagen around them. Radiesse is a collagen builder that can last 12 months or longer.

 Just like the Hyaluronic Acids they don't last forever as our body recognizes the calcium and will eventually break it down. I use Radiesse in the cheeks especially for women (or men) who have a lot of tissue loss. The remarkable thing about dermal fillers is that what you see when you leave the office is what you get. It is immediate.

Once fully corrected, you will only need to come once a year to keep your full correction. I use one Radiesse every year to keep my full correction. Seek out someone with a good reputation, someone who understands facial anatomy and has an eye for detail. It is an art form to me. I enjoy making people look like they did when they were younger while also keeping the look natural. When fillers are used correctly no one should notice. People will say "wow you look rested" or "did you do somethng different with your hair? lose weight?" YES that is what filler can do!'
