The Story Behind the Moving Billboards

Have you seen my car driving around town? Want to know what it means? Read on...

It's the time of year when you see countless minivans and SUVs cruising around with colorful writing splashed across the rear window. Go Team! Season Champs!  We Are Undefeated! And then there's my car.

If you've seen my car (see photo) or one with a similar message around town, great. If not—I could really use your help. Here's why.

Right now, a company called Vivint is holding a contest and will be giving away a total of $1.25 million dollars to charities. The charities will be chosen based on number of votes each receives. Do you see where I'm going with this?

Some of you may have heard of Journey 4 A Cure, formerly known as Declan's Journey. J4AC was created in honor of Declan Black Carmical, a Virginia native, who lost his battle with cancer one week shy of his first birthday. A sweet little baby who never even had a chance to speak his first words. I can't even begin to do his family justice by telling you his story, but I hope you will take a few moments to read about Declan here.

Baby Declan's family continues to fight in his honor and for countless other children who cannot fight for themselves. Many of us don't really spend much time thinking about childhood cancer until we are personally touched by it. Maybe it's your child, maybe it's a neighbor, or a friend's child. Families are hearing the words "your child has cancer" each and every day. Childhood cancer is growing and we need to do something.

What can you do to help? I'm so glad you asked. For starters, you can vote every day by clicking here. While you're there, read a few facts about pediatric cancer you may not know. It's a real eye opener.

Next, you can tell everyone you know about Vote4ACure. Your family, your co-workers, all your Facebook friends. Everyone. Every single vote makes a difference.  No really - it does. I know requests for charitable donations of time and money are in your face every day, but honestly—this is so easy to do. Five seconds of your time (depending on your internet connection) and three clicks is all you need to give.

If you want to step it up, you can always grab some window crayons and turn your car into a moving billboard. If you're not sure how to do it, "like" Journey 4 A Cure on Facebook and view the "Moving Billboards" photo album. Support is a bit more visible in Declan's Ashburn area, but it's spreading. Let's keep it going!

Voting will end on August 27th and I hope I can post an update here saying that we were able to help Journey 4 A Cure win some much needed funding for pediatric cancer research. If you see me around town, be sure to honk your horn. And then vote.
