Drunk Driver Pleads Guilty in Crash That Injured Police Chief

A Centreville woman pleaded guilty to a Driving While Intoxicated charge after crashing into Police Chief Ed Roessler's car in December.

CENTREVILLE, VA -- A Centreville woman pleaded guilty to a Driving While Intoxicated charge Wednesday in a December 2016 crash that injured Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler Jr.

She was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $1,000 fine. She also faces restrictions on her driver's license until she completes an alcohol education program. According to police, Christie A. Edgar had a blood alcohol content of .26 at the time of the crash. A 48-year old male passenger in Edgar's car, was released at the scene.

Roessler testified at the Fairfax County General District Court Wednesday. “Justice has prevailed. I hope the defendant learns from the punishment imposed," said Roessler after the trial.

The incident occurred on Dec. 12, 2016 at Lee Highway and Stone Road around 8:40 p.m. Roessler was stopped at a traffic light when Edgar rear ended the police cruiser, said spokeswoman Julie Parker in December. The police chief went to the hospital for minor injuries and returned to work the day. Edgar was arrested at the scene, charged with the DWI and was released from county jail the next morning.
