Bulldogs Roll Over Hawks
Westfield Lady Bulldogs ride a 20-point first-half lead to easy victory.

The Westfield High School girls' basketball team improved to 2-1 on Friday night, rebuffing a challenge from a stubborn Hayfield team and earning a 55-42 victory in non-district play.
Westfield led by more than 20 points in the first half and entered halftime with a 33-14 advantage. Hayfield (1-2) cut the deficit to as few as nine points in the third quarter, but the Bulldogs held Hayfield at bay in the final period.
Despite being hampered by foul trouble and spending a decent chunk of the game on the bench, senior forward Siobhan Beslow scored 13 points to lead the Bulldogs. Senior guard Jessica McNamara added 12 points.

Senior forward Dani Knox, who saw more time on the inside with Beslow on the bench, scored five points and grabbed nine boards.
"It was two separate games," Westfield Coach Pat Deegan said. "It was a game where the team that had most of their players on the floor was the one that had the advantages."

Beslow wasn't the only player who picked up fouls early. Hayfield center Shannen Cochrahan sat out most of the first half with foul trouble and fouled out late in the third quarter.
"We started relying on our perimeter a little more [after Cochrahan fouled out]", Hayfield Coach Rudy Coffield said.
The Hawks were led by 13 points from guard Brandi Smith and 11 points from guard Taylor Jewett.
Westfield's next game is at 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Lake Braddock.
