Fire Starts After Grill Left Unattended
A Fair Oaks townhouse deck caught fire Monday night and caused $10,000 in damages.

A Fair Oaks townhouse deck caught fire around 10:30 p.m. Monday night.
Two adults and four children have been displaced due to the fire, but no one was injured. The fire began from a grill that was left unattended on the back deck.
According to a Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department press release, the townhouse, located at 12582 Garland Tree Ct. in Fairfax, near Chantilly, sustained $10,000 in damages. The fire originated on the second-story deck but was spreading towards the attic when firefighters arrived.

The fire was quickly extinguished and only minor damage to the interior of the home occurred. The deck is now unusable.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department advises residents to place grills at least 15 feet away from any building to make sure there is proper ventilation. Learn more about grill safety here.
