Friends of Homeless Animals Awarded Grant From Local Charity

Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) of Aldie, Virginia has received a $1000 grant from the Ursula Landsrath Animal Rescue Fund of Middleburg, Virginia. This grant was awarded for the purchase of additional cat condo space to increase FOHA's capacity to take in more homeless cats. Alison Maurhoff, FOHA's Executive Director explains, "the more cats FOHA can take in the more cats we can save from euthanasia".

According to Best Friends Network, 84% of shelter deaths in 2020 were cats. While Virginia has a save rate of almost 85% of animals that enter shelters, there is still work to be done to improve this, especially for cats. FOHA partners with many shelters in other parts of the state to help improve save rates by finding forever homes for at-risk animals.

FOHA is one of 24 organizations to receive a grant from ULARF to help shelter animals in Virginia. The winning organizations received a total of $57,000 in support.

Ursula Landsrath of Middleburg, Virginia founded the Animal Rescue Fund of Virginia in 2008. Her husband and friends created the Ursula Landsrath Animal Rescue Fund within the Community Foundation of Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties at her passing in January 2019 to ensure her grantmaking legacy. Dedicated to her love of animals, the Ursula Landsrath Animal Rescue Fund continues to provide needed funds to grassroots animal rescue organizations.

Thanks to generous organizations like the Ursula Landsrath Animal Rescue Fund, and FOHA’s caring volunteers, more animals like Leah can be saved and placed in forever homes.
