Joint pain is one of the most common reasons for seeing your doctor. Did you know that there are two simple techniques that can keep your back, knees, hips and spinal joints working like brand new?
The key to good joint health involves keeping your joints well lubricated. Just like the engine in your car that uses oil to reduce friction, there is a substance in your joints called synovial fluid that serves the same purpose.
Synovial fluid is a natural substance that is comprised mostly of water and essential oils. If your joints have an adequate supply of synovial fluid they will work pain free. If you are lacking adequate amounts of this fluid, your joints will rub and become painful and inflamed.
So what is the best way to keep synovial fluid at healthy levels? There are two important ways. The first is to drink plenty of water and stay well hydrated. The recommendation for older adults is eight, 8 ounce glasses of water every day. That is just water and does not include tea, coffee, juice or milk.
The second way to boost synovial fluid levels is to perform some simple joint stabilization exercises like the ones we teach in our Posture Perfect! classes.
Moving the joints and strengthening the muscles around them is particularly helpful in increasing synovial fluid and reducing pain.
These exercises take 15 to 20 minutes and can be practiced each and every day until your joints feel better. Click Here to see a video of Charlotte Stone demonstrating some of these exercises.
