Local Team Triumphs at Nationals

Creative Dance Center’s Award Winning Competition Team won big at 2015 NexStar National Talent Competition Nationals held recently at the Kalahari Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. The Competition Team competed 176 dances over the course of 5 full days of competition against studios from all over the United States. The results of their efforts brought home to Virginia a total of 23 National Champion Titles, 4 Victory Cups, and the singular National Studio Excellence Award.

Team instructors, choreographers, collaborators and sisters, Jamie Frye Pelmore and Staci Frye Kieffer, earned four Victory Cups, 21 National Championship Titles as well as 2 National Choreographer’s Awards for their choreography. 3 additional National Championship Titles were earned by team choreographers Geralyn Ward, and Ashley and Amber McAtee.

The Competition Team’s Director, Ms. Ginny Frye, had this to say about the Team’s accomplishments: “I am super proud of my teachers, dancers, and parents. Everyone did an awesome job.”

Although the team also received many other noteworthy scores, the following are only their first place National Championship Titles.

Dancers on the Creative Dance Center Competition Team (CDC*CT), headquartered in Chantilly, Virginia, compete at the regional, national, and world levels. Including the Ashburn and South Riding studio locations, approximately 195 boys and girls ranging in age from 4 to 18 compete in Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Open, Musical Theater and Contemporary categories. Although its primary focus is to provide a strong dance education, the CDC*CT program also stresses the principles of teamwork: working together towards mutual goals, building positive team spirit, and supporting fellow dancers. In addition to competing, dancers are provided opportunities to volunteer and/or perform for various charitable community organizations.

In 2014, the Creative Dance Center Competition Team won 6 World Championships at the World Dance Championships. CDC*CT earned its way to the World Championships by qualifying with top score in a division at regional and national competitions held by the members of the Star Dance Alliance, including Nexstar Talent and Starpower. For their accomplishments at Worlds, Loudoun County Government bestowed upon the team a Resolution of Commendation for their “monumental accomplishment” and for “representing Loudoun County with distinction and excellence.” In addition to the world championships, CDC*CT earned two Power Ranking appearances on the regional level, five Victory Cups, and 39 National Championship Titles at the 2014 Nexstar National Dance Competition in Sandusky, Ohio.

In 2013, the team earned championship titles at the Believe competition against Abby Lee Miller Dance Company, among others, and several National Championship titles at Nexstar Nationals in Sandusky, Ohio. Competition Team Choreographers, Jamie Frye and Staci Frye, won the prestigious “Choreographer of the Year” KARtv 2013 Dance Awards and Benefit Show. CDC*CT’s “Love You,” choreographed by Staci and Jamie Frye, and “Right About Now,” choreographed by Rebecca Green,were nominated for 2013 Showbiz National Talent Icon Awards. Competition Team Students, A. Baptiste and S. Conway, received coveted full scholarships to attend the Alvin Ailey Summer Dance Intensive. S. Conway also received acceptance to the esteemed Joffrey Ballet School Summer Intensive Program.

Creative Dance Center Competition Team alumni have gone on to become dance majors with the University of Virginia Dance Company, Virginia Tech Dance Company, Virginia Commonwealth University, George Mason University Dance Department, Florida State University, James Madison University, and the Towson University Dance Department. Alumni have also been accepted on dance teams at the University of Alabama, University of Tennessee, University of Delaware, Radford University, Coastal Carolina University, and James Madison University for four consecutive seasons.
