The goal of the “Lions ROAR for Recycling” grant is to double the recycling at Lunsford and increase home recycling through education and awareness. In support of a public awareness campaign, a number of activities were initiated including:
- Providing “Green Facts” over the morning announcements during a four week-period;
- Newsletter articles, Facebook posts, and Twitter recycling posts (#jmlrecycles);
- A Bottle Cap Contest in the library;
- Teacher Raffle, Teacher Recycling Myths/Facts communication;
- Display board identifying trash vs. recyclable materials at the kick-off event.
The Lunsford PTA and Green Club have been working with the students, staff, custodians and community business partners to support the program. Members of the project included The PTA Green Team led by Julie Abel and Nabeela Fischer; the PTA Executive Board; the student Green Club; and the Lunsford administration, custodial, library and cafeteria staff.
