Manslaughter, DUI Charges Filed Against Driver In Crash That Killed A Reston Woman

Police charged the driver involved in a Dec. 6 fatal crash in Chantilly with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence.

CHANTILLY, VA — Fairfax County Police detectives charged 45-year-old Rocio Miranda of Manassas with involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence in connection with the Dec. 5 crash that killed a 29-year-old Reston woman, according to a police release.

Officers responded at 4 a.m. on Dec. 5 for the report of a crash on Poplar Tree Road at Leighfield Street in the Chantilly area.

Estefania Cabrera of Reston was a passenger in a 2017 Toyota Highlander driven by Miranda. As the car was heading eastbound on Poplar Tree Road, it passed through the Leighfield Street intersection and drifted off the road, striking a tree.

Both Cabrera and Miranda were transported to a nearby hospital for the treatment of their injuries. Cabrera was later pronounced dead.

Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident and obtained a warrant for Miranda's arrest, charging her with driving under the influence and involuntary manslaughter. She turned herself in at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. After being processed, she was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
