Chantilly, Virginia—An interfaith program on “World Peace Through Reconciliation: Peace Starts with Me” was held March 15 at the India International School in Chantilly. About 25 participants attended the second gathering in an ongoing dialogue among local faith leaders and community members committed to strengthening understanding across religious traditions.
The program was organized through a partnership of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), Pure Style, Inc., Global Economic Foundation and Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP).
Dr. William Selig, former communications director for the Universal Peace Federation, served as master of ceremonies. He emphasized that while faith traditions may differ in practice, they share common values of hope, renewal, reconciliation, and peace. He encouraged participants to become builders of peace within their families and communities.

Welcoming remarks were given by Mrs. Barbara Moseley-Marks, Virginia Executive Director of UPF and Founder of Pure Style, Inc. She reflected on the role of religion in society, noting that faith should unite people rather than divide them. Referencing recent acts of religious violence, she called on participants to take personal responsibility for peace, reminding the audience that meaningful change begins with each individual.
The program also featured cultural and spiritual expressions from several traditions. Arpita Gogoi shared a traditional song from India, while Shreejana Uprety—a holistic health counselor, yoga instructor, and Ayurveda practitioner originally from Nepal—performed a Nepalese dance. Reflections were offered by Dr. Michael Jenkins and Minister Reiko Jenkins, and Mrs. Indira Kumar led a brief meditation on “Om Shanti,” a prayer for peace.
