Charlottesville investigating apparent arson at former encampment site near Free Bridge (c-ville.com) — Charlottesville police and the fire marshal are investigating a suspected arson at the former Rivanna River encampment site, where surveillance video shows someone setting tents on fire shortly after the city declared the area cleared. Officials are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers, and residents can also hear from Lt. Gov. Ghazala Hashmi in Charlottesville on September 14 about a proposed Dominion–NextEra energy merger.

Charlottesville alone saw $427.7 million in visitor spending, driven largely by restaurants, wineries, lodging, and other businesses, with tourism officials now pushing to entice visitors to stay longer and spend more locally.

New low-barrier shelter operations improve as occupancy grows (29news.com) — Charlottesville's new low-barrier shelter on Holiday Drive is quickly filling, with 57 people staying there just over a week after opening and room to expand beyond 60 beds. City leaders and shelter staff say the first months will focus on helping former encampment residents feel safe, stabilize, and access transportation and services before shifting toward individualized plans rooted in trauma-informed care.
