'House of Steep' Offers Teas, Relaxation

The business will open soon.

An Arlington woman is hoping her new tea house will offer another place for area residents to find solace.

“I really enjoy tea and creating a space where people can relax and get away from the hectic lifestyle here,” said Lyndsey DePalma, 31.

DePalma will be opening the 1,000-square-foot House of Steep tea house at 3800 Lee Highway soon. It's a change of pace from her previous job as a human resources manager for an accounting firm.

“I went to business school at night and put together this business plan,” DePalma said. “It’s a completely different career path for me.”

DePalma said she has always enjoyed drinking tea, a pastime she learned from her grandmother, who was a herbalist. In her tea house, she plans to have 25 to 30 teas on hand for customers at any given time.

“There will be very simple, close-to-the-Earth teas,” DePalma said. “It’s not going to be sugary teas. It’s more focused on health.”

She also wants to offer salads, wraps and muffins. And there will be a selection of relaxation products.

Reflexologists will be brought in as needed, and she hopes to host occasional meditation seminars for clients.

“We are going to be open in a couple of weeks and we have a few more pieces to put it together,” DePalma said. “I’m looking forward to delivering this experience here.”
