Slideshow: Beautiful and Secretive Woodmont

We took a tour of this often overlooked neighborhood, which lies just north of Clarendon and Courthouse

A Woodmont resident took us on a tour of her beautiful and mysterious neighborhood, which lies just north of Clarendon and Courthouse. Stately Victorian homes, Civil War history and a good dose of nature explain why CEOs and politicos populate this wealthy enclave. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Sandra Bullock have both called the neighborhood home.

Despite Woodmont's quiet veneer, it made headlines in recent years due to the headquarters of "The Fellowship," the secretive Christian political organization that hosts the National Prayer Breakfast every year and has come under fire for allegedly trying to undermine the separation between church and state. Aside from the organization's mansion headquarters, called "The Cedars," it also runs two dormitories -- one male, one female -- for its youth programs.

The presence of the dormitories caused a drawn-out battle between Woodmont neighbors after a series of break-ins in 2003 were linked a young man with ties to the organization. Fellowship members make up a large percentage of homeowners in the neighborhood and divisions between Fellowship members and non-Fellowship members have remained ever since.
