Wrong-Way Driver Crashes Head-On Into Car On I-66 Near Rosslyn

The suspect allegedly tried to run away after the crash.

ROSSLYN, VA — A driver who refused to pull over for Secret Service officers in Washington, D.C. drove the wrong way on Interstate 66 near Rosslyn and crashed head on into a car, injuring a passenger and the other driver, media outlets reported. It started around 4:30 a.m. Sunday when a uniformed Secret Service officer noticed a vehicle driving in the wrong direction on I Street Northwest, according to news reports.

The driver refused to pull over for the officer, Secret Service spokesman Jeffrey Adams told WRC-TV. The driver then headed onto I-66 eastbound, traveling in the wrong direction, he said. The suspect then collided head-on into a car and ran off.

Police took the passenger into custody and then to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. The driver of the other vehicle was also hospitalized with injuries and is expected to be ok.

I-66 lanes at Lee Highway were closed to traffic until about 7 a.m, WRC-TV reported.
