Police Still Seeking Help in Copper Pipe Thefts

An ongoing from vacant homes and construction sites around Dale City has police once again asking the public for information.

The thefts seem to have begun in June, and since then many similar incidents have been reported, in some cases resulting in thousands of dollars' worth of damages from gas and water leaks.

Police said that neighbors should keep an eye on nearby vacant homes. Suspects could be posing as construction or utility crews. Police ask residents to report any suspicious activity by calling the police non-emergency number at 703-792-6500. Anyone who smells natural gas or sees a crime in progress should call 9-1-1 immediately.

Prince William County Police Captain Captain Greg Smith, commander for the Eastern District, said residents should call the police about any suspicious activity, even if it seems insignificant. "Don’t feel as though you are burdening us," Smith said. "We would much rather respond and determine it as legitimate than not being called."
