The Great Escape: Girls’ Night In

Host a slumber party.

Don’t let your children have all the fun during the summer months—use the freer schedule to plan something for you and your friends. Host a grown girls’ only slumber party!

Invite three to six friends for a night over that none of you will forget. Take a cue from the kids and make things special: buy favorite foods, watch a funny movie, and stay up late talking. Don’t be afraid to add some age-appropriate flair such as take-out from a favorite ethnic restaurant or a homemade cheesecake. A romantic comedy or a favorite classic movie (or a horror flick, if that’s everyone’s preference) would be good entertainment as well as something more active such as bowling or outlet shopping.

There’s no need for sleeping on the floor or being exhausted the next day. Improve on the original slumber party by pulling a few mattresses from the bedrooms and instituting a lights out rule. Complete the evening with drinks and dessert, knowing that your girls' night in was a success.
