The Great Escape: Mom’s Recess

Take a daily break on your own.

School is less than a week away and with the whole family gearing up with open houses and new backpacks, make sure to schedule a daily break for yourself.

It could be as simple as a nap when the kids head to school, but try to challenge yourself to do something you wouldn’t try normally. If you’re home during the day, try packing a lunch or snack, grabbing a book and blanket, and heading to a local park to enjoy an hour’s peace. The vitamin D is only one of the benefits of getting outside. If you’re at work, try the same thing during your lunch hour. If you’re not able to go to a park, just try eating wherever you can outside. Just the simple break from your office will give you a boost for the rest of the day.

Other ideas include a frequent bubble bath, reading with the door shut, or taking a simple walk in the evening. Take a look at your daily schedule to find a daily recess might help you avoid stress build-up and bring a welcome dose of happiness.

Need a budget-friendly babysitter? Try swapping with another local mom. If you want an evening out one week, ask if she would watch your kids if you would trade the next week. Be sure to set realistic expectations and discuss specifics, but you may find a long term solution that can benefit both families.
