'Beltway Bank Bandit' Sought For $10K Reward: FBI

WASHINGTON, DC—The FBI Washington Field Office has doubled the reward for the "Beltway Bank Bandit," an unknown person believed to have carried out 19 bank robberies and one retail robbery in the region.

The robberies happened between December 2017 and February 2019. In each of the robberies, the suspect passes a note to tellers demanding money and fled on foot. The suspect displayed a gun in several robberies.

The FBI believes one suspect is responsible and that he wore various wigs and a baseball hat covered by a hood or hijab to change his appearance. He also wore plastic gloves like those used for food service.

The suspect is described as a black man in his 20s or 30s, around 5 foot 7 to 6 foot 2, and around 160-170 pounds.

The incidents are as follows:

• Dec. 22, 2017, 3:47 p.m., BB&T Bank, 13045 Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax, Va.
• Jan. 11, 2018, 10:26 a.m., Capital One Bank, 85 H Street NW, Washington, D.C.
• Feb. 13, 2018, 10:36 a.m., Suntrust Bank, 405 Manning Road, Accokeek, Md.
• March 1, 2018, 1:50 p.m., Capital One Bank located at 3499 South Jefferson Street, Falls Church, Va.
• March 8, 2018, 12:35 p.m., M&T Bank, 7485 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Va.
• May 14, 2018, 9:25 p.m., Burlington Coat Factory, 3200 Donnell Drive, District Heights, Md. The suspect wore a similar handbag and skirt during the Capital One Bank robbery on March 1, 2018.
• June 29, 2018, 2:44 p.m., PNC Bank, 3297 Crain Highway, Waldorf, Md.
• July 12, 2018, 10:14 a.m., BB&T Bank, 10660 Stanhaven Place, White Plains, Md.
• Aug. 17, 2018, 5:15 p.m., BB&T Bank, 9412 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, Md.
• Sept. 14, 2018, 5 p.m., BB&T Bank, 9412 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, Md.
• Oct. 9, 2018, 11:14 a.m., Wells Fargo Bank, 15480 Annapolis Rd, Suite 200, Bowie, Md.
• Oct. 12, 2018, 2:08 p.m., BB&T Bank, 5203 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va.
• Oct. 12, 2018, 4:40 p.m., PNC Bank (inside Giant), 14125 Saint Germaine Drive, Centreville, Va.
• Oct. 27, 2018, 11:30 a.m., Bank of America, 8096 Rolling Road, Springfield, Va.
• Oct. 29, 2018, 1:54 p.m., Eagle Bank, 277 S. Washington Street, Alexandria, Va. The suspect implied that he had a gun.
• Nov. 13, 2018, 1 p.m., Wells Fargo Bank, 1805 Belle View Blvd, Alexandria, Va. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
• Dec. 10, 2018, 9 a.m., Burke & Herbert Bank, 5519 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
• Dec. 20, 2018, 9:45 a.m., BB&T Bank, 5203 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va.
• Jan. 2, 2019, Capital One Bank, 15460 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Md. The suspect displayed a handgun to the teller.
• Feb. 11, 2019, Capital One Bank, 3532 Columbia Pike, Arlington, Va.
