ALEXANDRIA, VA — It's the holiday season in Del Ray as Hanukkah continues through Dec. 6 and Christmas and Kwaanza arrive later in December. There are plenty of ways to get in the holiday spirit throughout the month in the neighborhood.

Del Ray Holiday Season Kick-Off: Dec. 5, 6 p.m.

Join your neighbors for the Christmas tree and Menorah lighting at Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues). There will also be carols by the Alexandria Kinderchoir and thousands of luminarias along Mount Vernon Avenue in honor of the late Nancy Dunning. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations for Carpenter's Shelter: full-size lotions, deodorants, body wash, ground coffee, or flip flops/shower shoes in various sizes. Plus, visit Pat Miller Neighborhood Square each evening during Hanukkah for the continued Menorah lighting.

Holiday Card Lane: Dec. 5 through holiday season

Neighbors along East Luray Avenue and some surrounding areas collaborate to put on a display of oversized holiday cards in their yards. The display should be ready in time for the holiday kick-off on Dec. 5. Plus, visit Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. for caroling.

Del Ray Artisans Fine Art & Fine Craft Holiday Market: Dec. 3-19, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays

For the 26th year, Del Ray Artisans will host a holiday market showcasing fine arts and crafts from local artists. Expect items such as fiber/textiles, glass, jewelry, mixed media, mosaics, ornaments, painting, paper crafting, photography, polymer clay, pottery/ceramics, prints, sculpture, watercolor, wood, wreaths and more. Different artists will be featured on different weekends. Hours are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends. Del Ray Artisans is located at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue.

Shops of Del Ray's Holiday Sip & Shop: Dec. 9, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Enjoy a night of shopping with special promotions while sipping wine. The event is hosted by Shops of Del Ray and held along Mount Vernon Avenue.

Alexandria Holiday Concert: Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

Join the Alexandria Citizens Band for this free concert with your favorite holiday songs. Attendees are encouraged to wear holiday sweaters and Santa hats. Masks are required. The event will be held at the Del Ray United Methodist Church, 100 E Windsor Avenue. Sign up for free on Eventbrite.

Del Ray Vintage & Flea Market: Dec. 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This monthly market features vintage, antique, thrift and artisan vendors at Mount Vernon and Bellefonte Avenues. This is the last date of 2021.

Del Ray Candy Cane Bar Crawl: Dec. 11, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Del Ray Business Association will host the sixth annual Del Ray Candy Cane Bar Crawl. This year's event benefits Neighborhood Health. With a $15 admission ticket ($20 at the door), attendees get holiday cocktails, beers, and food at 15 participating restaurants, as well as trolley transportation, raffles, and a costume contest for best dressed individual and group. The first 250 to register receive a swag bag with a 16 oz event souvenir cup. Buy your tickets online.

Eleventh Annual Alexandria Holiday Lights Ride + Walk: Dec. 17-18, 8 p.m.

The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee and Alexandria Spokeswomen will host this free bike ride and walk starting at 1000 Main Line Boulevard. Bikers are encouraged to decorate their bike with holiday lights. Register for the event here.
