Alexandria Announces Salute to Women Honorees

Here's a look at the 2016 honorees for the 36th annual Salute to Women Awards, announced Thursday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Alexandria’s Commission for Women has announced the names of the honorees for its 36th Annual Salute to Women Awards. Twelve women will be recognized for their accomplishments in civic life and for the improvements they have brought to the well-being of Alexandria’s women.

The awards are presented for achievement in a wide range of private and governmental pursuits, including the arts, business, service to youth, public policy, health and safety, public service and civic leadership.

The 2016 Awardees, who were selected by an independent committee appointed by the Commission, are:

  • Hannah Godshall (Rising Star Award)
  • Kathleen Burns (Making a Difference Award)
  • McKenya Dilworth Abdalla (Youth Community Services Award-Adult)
  • Isabella Lovain (Youth Community Services Award-Youth)
  • Priscilla Goodwin (Maguerite Payez Leadership Award)
  • Helen Morris (Marian Van Landingham Legislation and Public Policy Award)
  • Gloria Barbre (Donna Bergheim Cultural Affairs Award)
  • Claire Dunn (Women’s Health and Safety Advocate Award)

The Salute to Women Awards ceremony will be held on Monday, March 28, at the Patent and Trade Office, 600 Dulany St. The reception begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $75 per person. Sponsorships and ads in the program are also available.

Visit Salute to Women to purchase tickets. Proceeds of the Banquet benefit the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center.
