Alexandria Businesses Host Events For Spring2ACTion Donors

Alexandria's day of giving is coming up on April 10. Numerous groups will have promotions for anyone who donates.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Every year, donors rally in support of charitable causes for the Spring2ACTion day of giving in Alexandria. The next 24-hour giving day will happen on Wednesday, April 10.

Hosted by ACT for Alexandria, Spring2ACTion allows donors to support causes of their choices, and the top recipients can win bonus prizes. To bolster support for charitable causes, various businesses will offer events for donors. Donors can also give to the cause of their choice online at www.Spring2ACTion.org.

  • Alexandria Restaurant Partners: 5 percent of all April 10 sales benefit ACT for Alexandria. Participating restaurants: Lena's Wood-Fired Pizza & Tap, The Majestic, Mia's Italian Kitchen, Theismann's, Vola's Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge. All day
  • ALX Community, 106 North Lee Street: Join the fun. Stop by and make a donation and win prizes and take a photo. Dogs welcome! This will be a great way to support local nonprofits and have fun doing it! 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • South Block, 106 North Lee Street: 15 percent of all sales on April 10 benefit Spring2ACTion, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • McEnearney Associates Donor Lounge, 526 King Street: Show us your donation or donate in-person and receive a complimentary Misha's coffee! 8 a.m.-10 a.m.
  • At Home in Alexandria (at Del Ray Cafe, 205 East Howell Avenue): At Home in Alexandria (AHA) will set up campaign HQ at Del Ray Cafe. To commemorate our 7th year working together on S2A Day, Del Ray Cafe is donating 7 percent of the day's food sales to AHA! Stop by to cheer us on. Free croissant and coffee on us! 8 a.m.-9 p.m.
  • Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (at Look Again Resale Shop, 900 King Street): Join us at Look Again Resale Shop for a shop-a-thon! $20 donation allows you to buy up to $40 of gently-used treasures in the store! (Bring your used eyeglasses, too!) Proceeds benefit the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington. 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Arts on the Horizon (at Convergence, 1819 North Quaker Lane): Join us at 10:30am at the Lab at Convergence, where you can explore the world of our upcoming new play, Sailing on String, in a 30-minute, free workshop for children and families. 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m.
  • Arts on the Horizon (at Convergence, 1819 North Quaker Lane): Bring your little ones for a free exclusive creative drama class for ages 3-5, where they will use their voices, bodies, and imaginations to tell stories! And stick around afterwards for free cookies from Best Buns Bread Company! 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
  • Pork Barrel BBQ, 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue: $0.25 from every sandwich purchased on April 10 will be donated to ACT for Alexandria. 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • The Sushi Bar, 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue: $0.25 from every roll purchase on April 10 will be donated to ACT for Alexandria. 5 p.m.-midnight
  • Holy Cow, 2312 Mount Vernon Avenue: $0.25 from each burger purchased on April 10 will support the nonprofit of the customer's choice and $500 will be awarded to the nonprofit with the most customer mentions on April 10. 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Tequila & Taco, 540 John Carlyle Street: $0.25 from every taco purchase on April 10 will go to ACT for Alexandria. 11 a.m.-midnight
  • Arts on the Horizon (at Northside 10, 10 East Glebe Road): Join us for a family-friendly Happy Hour at Northside 10 where you can sample the Arts on the Horizon special cocktail and mocktail. Stick around for balloons and craft time where you can build paper trucks from our latest show, Beep Beep! 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
  • The Shoe Hive and The Patterson Group, 127 South Fairfax Street: 10 percent off at The Shoe Hive PLUS 10 percent to your charity of choice! Come shop and sip on wine provided by The Patterson Group. 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
  • Alexandria Harmonizers (at Virtue Feed & Grain 106 S. Union Street): The Alexandria Harmonizers celebrate Spring2ACTion with food, drink, and song. Come join us and hear the Harmonizers perform! At your request, our friends at Virtue Feed & Grain will donate a portion of your check to the Harmonizers. 6 p.m.-10 p.m.
  • Sugar Shack, 804 N. Henry Street: Free donut with proof of donation to any nonprofit participating in Spring2ACTion on April 10. 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
  • Jen Walker Team (at Stomping Ground, 2309 Mount Vernon Avenue): Stop by and make a donation to any participating Alexandria non-profit and we'll buy your morning coffee! 8 a.m.-10 a.m.
  • Senior Services of Alexandria, 206 North Washington Street Suite 301: We're rapidly growing and all that growth means we needed more space. Come see our new office right in Old Town, just two blocks off King Street! 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Dishes of India, 1510-A Belle View Boulevard: Dine at Dishes of India and 10 percent of all sales will be donated to Spring2ACTion. 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
  • Sweet Fire Donna's, 510 John Carlyle Street: $0.25 from every sandwich purchase on April 10 will be donated to ACT for Alexandria. 11 a.m.-midnight
  • National Breast Center Foundation (at AR Workshop, 107 North Fairfax Street): Cocktails and Crafts at AR Workshop. 5 p.m.-7 p.m.
  • Alexandria Jaycees Foundation (at Fiona's Irish Pub, 5810 Kingstowne Center): Spring2ACTion with the Alexandria Jaycees Foundation at Fiona's Irish Pub Kingstowne. We will be collecting nonperishable food items for DC Food & Friends and toiletries & socks for the South County Recover Center during Happy Hour from 5-9pm.
  • Historic Alexandria Museums, 220 North Washington Street: Get "fired up" for Friendship Firehouse at our #GetHosed #HelpOurHose Happy Hour. Located at the Lloyd House, 220 N. Washington Street - 6 to 8:30 p.m. Let's win the Happy Hour power hour! Just a $10 donation to attend!

Sponsoring organizations will also reward money and other prizes to causes that reach milestones, such as the most donors, most dollars raised and most social media engagement.

Last year, donors raised a record-breaking $1.7 million for 157 Alexandria nonprofits. Recipients represent a wide variety of causes from health and wellness to food and shelter, arts and music, schools and PTAs, children and families, veteran's programs, and animal rescue.
