Alexandria Commemorates World AIDS Day
More than 1,600 city residents are currently living with HIV.

Thursday marks World AIDS Day, which has been recognized every year on Dec. 1 since 1988.
In commemoration, the Alexandria Commission on HIV/AIDS and are hosting a screening of the documentary “The Other City.” The film begins at 7 p.m. with a reception beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Inova Alexandria, located at 4320 Seminary Road.
At the reception, Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille will will present a proclamation affirming Dec. 1 as World AIDS Day in the city.

“The Other City,” released in 2010, is about the struggles of combating HIV and AIDS in Washington, D.C., where at least 3 percent of residents are HIV positive.
To date, more than 820 Alexandrians have died due to complications of HIV and AIDS. Currently more than 1,600 residents are currently living with HIV.
