Alexandria Election Results 2019: Democrats Reelected

Live 2019 election results: Voters chose winners for Virginia House and Senate as well as Alexandria clerk of court.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Democratic candidates won elections for Virginia House and Senate in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election, as well as an uncontested candidate for Alexandria clerk of court. Polls closed at 7 p.m.

Control of the state House and Senate went to Democrats, giving the party its first trifecta since 1993. State Sen. George Barker defeated Republican Dutch Hillenburg in the 39th District, which the Virginia Public Access Project designated as a strongly blue area. State Sens. Adam Ebbin and Dick Saslaw won their reelection bids in the 30th and 35th Senate District races, respectively. Dels. Mark Levine and Charniele Herring won their uncontested races in the 45th and 46th House District races, respectively.

Greg Parks won the uncontested Alexandria clerk of court race. Current Clerk of Court Ed Semonian is retiring after serving since 1979, making Parks the first new person in 40 years to win the position. In June, Parks won the primary against Ben Ortiz.

Voter turnout is trending close to 2015, a mayoral election year. According to a 4 p.m. update from the city's Office of Voter Registration & Elections, 23.04 percent of registered voters cast ballots. That number was 25.31 percent at this time in 2015.
