Alexandria Man Scores $150K In Second Lottery Win

Eight and a half years after winning the lottery, the luck hasn't faded for one Alexandria man. Kenneth Vaughan won $150K in the May 25 Cash 5 drawing by matching all five numbers not once but twice.

By wagering $1 on the first ticket, he scored the top prize of $100K. Wagering $0.50 on the second ticket got him the additional $50K. The winning numbers were 3-6-11-27-28, which he says were based on important family dates.

He said he usually doesn't play two tickets with identical numbers for the same drawing, but like he told his wife, “I feel kind of lucky tonight.”

That luck earned him $50K more than the $100K he won from Cash 5 in November 2009. Vaughan has been retired since 2012 and plans to use the winnings to help with retirement.

He bought the $100K ticket at the 7-Eleven at 800 Franklin Street, Alexandria and the $50K winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 7924 Fort Hunt Road.

Cash 5 drawings are held daily at 1:59 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. The chances of winning the $100K top prize are 1 in 278,256.
