Alexandria Man Sentenced For Child Sex Sting: US Attorney

An Alexandria man was sentenced to prison for traveling interstate to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor, a U.S. Attorney said.

WASHINGTON, DC — An Alexandria man was sentenced to five-and-a-half years in prison for traveling interstate to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor in DC, U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips announced.

Scott Casoni, 47, of Alexandria, pled guilty in April and was sentenced to 66 months in prison.

On June 6, 2016, Casoni contacted an undercover officer with the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force through a social network site, according to the government's evidence. Casoni engaged in text messaging with the undercover officer for the next few weeks, and arranged to meet with the officer in DC.

Casoni believed he was talking to a juvenile female and arranged to meet up with her to have sex, Phillips said. On June 30, Casoni traveled from Virginia to a pre-arranged meeting place in DC. When Casoni arrived, he was arrested and has been in custody ever since, Phillips said.

Additionally in July 2016, while Casoni was detained at the District of Columbia Department of Corrections, he contacted a family member in an effort to persuade the family member to change his password on all of his e-mail accounts, uninstall all of his messenger applications and remove several electronic devices from the home, Phillips said.
