ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria residents know how much furry friends are valued here, but the rest of the country seems to think so too. Expedia named Alexandria one of the 10 dog-friendly vacation destinations in the U.S.

The travel website chose cities based on the attractions, tours, restaurants with dog menus, and more. In a nutshell, these are the places you'd want to take your dog on a trip.

According to Visit Alexandria, the city had an estimated 40,000 dogs compared to 160,000 human residents. That's no surprise since Alexandria has no shortage of attractions for dogs and their humans to enjoy. "Stroll down King Street, and chances are you won’t get one block before oh-ing and ah-ing at a dog or a two," writes Expedia. "Water bowls (and treats!) line the street, where your four-legged one can stop for a sip while you window shop and walk along the waterfront."
