ALEXANDRIA, VA — At Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, all kinds of pets are taken in to help them find new forever homes.

Patch regularly features adoptable pets from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. One of these pets who could use some extra love is Trixie, a dachshund and beagle mix. Trixie recently had a lump removed and may need additional care from a "dogtor." But she'd also love a family to snuggle with at home.

Why You Should Adopt Me
An essay by Trixie
Dear Future Family,
My friends at the AWLA asked me to write a note to you, and while I can't exactly "write" (something about opposable thumbs), it still sounded like a great way to introduce myself.
My name is Trixie, and I am ten years young. I'm pretty cute, if I do say so myself, and my friends also say I'm "long" like a dachshund or a basset hound and "distinguished" because of my lovely frosted face. I prefer to think that I am "just the right size" and "aged to perfection."
I've been hanging out with an AWLA foster family, and it was a lot of fun. We went on hiking adventures and I got to snuggle a lot with people and in my comfy bed. I learned that I'd prefer to be your only pet; that means all the more snuggles for me, which are my fave.
I recently went to the Dogtor to have surgery to remove a lump on my tummy. While I feel pretty good after the surgery (did I mention I went on a super-fun hike?!?), it sounds like maybe there may still be some cells they were not able to get. I guess another trip to the Dogtor might be in our future? The AWLA folks would be happy to talk to you more about my veterinary records and what that means for my health going forward. (I have to say, all that Dogtor Talk is a bit over my head, as I am pretty low to the ground).

Anyway, that's me. I'm a pretty chill little lady who loves to snuggle, to sniff around the great outdoors, enjoys fine dining (from a bowl on the ground), and can't wait to find my new best friend. I'm so excited for that last part that you can just email my friends at AdoptTrixie@AlexandriaAnimals.org to meet me AND they've waived my adoption fees. How cool! I look forward to seeing you soon.
Love, Trixie
