Alexandria School Closed Tuesday Due to Water Main Break

Alexandria City Public Schools’ Douglas MacArthur Elementary School will be closed Tuesday due to a water main break, according to an alert sent out by ACPS early Tuesday morning. The school is located at 1101 Janney’s Lane in Alexandria.

Temperatures are in the teens Tuesday morning in Alexandria, with an expected high temperature of about 24 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The water main break left the school without water, canceling after-school activities at the school on Monday afternoon. MacArthur sent out a message asking parents and guardians to pick up their children Monday afternoon.

Cold temperatures have led to water breaks across the city. Virginia American Water is on the scene repairing the water main break. The company was also working on breaks at Dewitt Avenue and Henry Street on Monday.
