Alexandria Schools Change Thursday, Jan. 31 Schedule

Wind chills below zero will continue through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria City Public Schools and offices will run on a two-hour delay Thursday, Jan. 31 as freezing conditions continue. Students had a two-hour delay Wednesday after snow impacted road conditions.

Other schedule impacts include:

  • Kindergarten through grade 12 and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) students report two hours later than regular opening time.
  • Morning pre-K programs (Early Childhood Special Education and Preschoolers Learning Together) report two hours later than regular opening time and are dismissed one hour later than usual.
  • Afternoon pre-K reports one hour later than regular opening time and dismisses at the regular time.
  • Non-essential personnel should report two hours later than their regular time.
  • Essential personnel should report at regular time.

Alexandria is under a wind chill advisory through 10 a.m. Thursday. Expect wind chills of 5 to 10 degrees below zero. National Weather Service forecasters say the wind chills can result in hypothermia if a person is not properly bundled up.
