Alexandria Schools Make Schedule Change For Cold Weather

Alexandria City Public Schools will alter its schedule for Tuesday, Jan. 22.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Alexandria City Public Schools will run on a two-hour delay Tuesday, Jan. 22 due to the extreme cold. The delay applies to offices as well.

Cora Kelly School for Math, Science and Technology was closed Tuesday morning due to lack of heat. All activities at Cora Kelly or on school grounds are canceled. Essential personnel should report. All 12-month employees should report to work, but the liberal leave policy is in effect.

  • Kindergarten through grade 12 and Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI) students report two hours later than regular opening time.
  • Morning pre-K programs (Early Childhood Special Education and Preschoolers Learning Together) report two hours later than regular opening time, and dismiss one hour later than usual.
  • Afternoon pre-K reports one hour later than regular opening time and is dismissed at the regular time.
  • All non-essential personnel should report two hours later than their regular time.
  • Essential personnel should report on time.

The week started with strong winds, temperatures below freezing and wind chills below zero. According to the National Weather Service, temperature will reach the low 30s Tuesday while winds will calm.
