Alexandria Turkey Trot 2019: Route, How To Register
Before the big feast on Thanksgiving, head to Alexandria's Turkey Trot to run or walk.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — It's an annual tradition in Alexandria to get some exercise before feasting with the family on Thanksgiving. Over 5,000 people are expected at the 44th Turkey Trot, set for Thursday, Nov. 28 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The five-mile course starts and ends at George Washington Middle School, 1005 Mount Vernon Avenue. Runners will head up Mount Vernon Avenue, turn left on Uhler Avenue, and continue down Commonwealth Avenue. The course will loop back around via Chapman Street, Russell Road, Linden Street and Maple Street and back up Commonwealth Avenue. Runners will turn right on Oxford Avenue and back onto Mount Vernon Avenue to get to the finish line.

Strollers and dogs are allowed, but dogs must be on short leashes. Walkers can participate but should be aware the road will only be closed until around 10:15 a.m. Once Alexandria Police reopen the road, participants must move out of the street and onto the sidewalks.

- 7:30 a.m. - Doors open at GW Middle School for registration and Packet pickup
- 8:45 a.m. - Invocation and announcements
- 9 a.m. - Race start
- 10 a.m. - Main awards ceremony begins
Cash prizes will be awarded to the first three male and female runners. Other prizes are given to first, second and third place age group winners, first masters male and female runners, and the "Doggie Champ" and "Stroller Champ." Results will be available after the race at www.alexandriaturkeytrot.com/results.
Registrations is available online through Nov. 27 and at George Washington Middle School on race day. The costs is $10 online and $20 in-person for children 12 and under; $20 online and $30 in-person for 13-21; and $25 online and $35 in-person for 22 and up.
Volunteers are needed to set up on Nov. 27 and assist with the event on Nov. 28. See available time slots and sign up.
The event will collect donations for ALIVE!, a nonprofit serving Alexandria's needy. Participants are asked to bring two nonperishable food items to the race. Anyone can make a donation online at alexandriaturkeytrot.com/donate-to-alive/.
