Alexandria Woman Dies Week After Assault

BREAKING: An Alexandria woman died Thursday more than a week after being assaulted outside a convenience store.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—An Alexandria woman died more than a week after being assaulted outside a convenience store at the 4900 block of Seminary Road.

Around 11:40 p.m. on Monday, July 10, the victim was leaving a convenience store when a man assaulted her. Police found her lying unconscious on the ground outside the building. She was taken to the hospital.

Fedelia Montiel Benitiez, 39, died of her injuries at the hospital on July 20. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said the cause of death was homicide.

Robert Coleman, 26, of Alexandria was arrested and charged with Malicious Wounding on July 11. Because the death was determined to be a homicide, additional charges could come.
