Art On The Avenue 2018 Set For October In Del Ray

More than 300 artists will sell their work at the festival along Mount Vernon Avenue.

Art on the Avenue, one of Del Ray's largest festivals of the year, will return Saturday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. along Mount Vernon Avenue. The event draws approximately 50,000 people each year.

Held between between Bellefonte and Hume avenues in Del Ray, over 300 artists display their work between Bellefonte and Hume Avenues. These range from jewelers to woodworkers, pottery makers, soap crafters, glass makers and fabric artists.

Other entertainment includes stuff your own scarecrow, paint a pumpkin, lotus flower design and weave screen art for kids; a pie baking contest and live music. Vendors will offer a variety of food, such as hot dogs, BBQ, Indian, crab cakes, chocolate bananas dipped on a stick and cider donuts.

The event features various music stages with performances throughout the day:

  • Twin Stages at the corner of Mount Vernon and East Oxford Avenues: One stage has performances as the other sets up, providing continuous entertainment.
  • Homegrown Stage is located in the parking lot of 1900 Mount Vernon Avenue across from the BB&T Bank and the Salvation Army Building.
  • Acoustic Stage features musicians playing their own work in the Nature’s Nibbles side yard located at Mount Vernon and Stewart Avenues.
  • Colonel Arnald D. Gabriel Concert Band Stage features musicians from the Del Ray Performing Arts Center at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center soccer field.
  • Future Stars Stage is at the corner of Mount Vernon and Commonwealth Avenues.

Mount Vernon Ave will be closed from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. between Bellefonte and Hume Avenues. A free trolley will run between the Braddock Road Station and Bellefonte and Mount Vernon Avenues. every half hour from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
