Free King Street Art Festival Returns To Alexandria

A beer and wine garden and displays from 200 artists are among the highlights of this outdoor art gallery.

UPDATE: The festival has been moved to Sept. 22-23 due to Hurricane Florence.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Historic King Street will become an art lovers' haven during the 16th annual Alexandria King Street Art Festival. The free event will be held Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. along King Street from Washington Street to the waterfront.

More than 200 local and national artists will showcase hundreds of thousands of art pieces totaling over $15 million. $15 million in art will be on display for two days, and all artists will be on site to chat with patrons about the inspiration behind their art.

Artists are selected to join the festival from a panel of judges among hundreds of applicants. The selection process ensures a variety of art forms and price ranges will be offered at the festival.

Patrons can also enjoy a beer and wine garden and ice cream bowl fundraiser. The Art League’s popular Ice Cream Bowl Fundraiser sells handmade bowls with a scoop of ice cream for $15 each. Proceeds benefit The Art League. Participants can enter free drawing to win ceramic artwork and an Art League gift certificate.

Cross Union Street to the Torpedo Factory Art Center’s Beer & Wine Torpedo Garden. It will run from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. each day of the festival. Visitors can enjoy a sampling of craft beer and wine while exploring 82 working studios and seven galleries filled with handmade work by more than 165 local artists.

Well-behaved pets on leashes are welcome. The event is presented by Howard Alan Events, which holds art shows across the U.S. For more information, visit www.artfestival.com.
