Pet Lovers Block Party in Alexandria Is Sunday (ICYMI)

Bring your furry friends for a day of fun for Alexandria Love Your Pet Day Sunday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Mayor Allison Silberberg and the Alexandria City Council have named Sunday, April 23 as Alexandria Love Your Pet Day, and the dog-friendly town will be holding a block party to celebrate.

The block party will be held at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Wholistic Hound Academy parking lot (18 Roth St.) and will stretch along Colvin St to South Quaker Lane. Pets are welcome but should be leashed.

More than 40 local organizations will participate in a day of food trucks, children’s entertainment, interactive demonstrations and giveaways. There are activities for furry friends too, such as freestyle dog dancing, nail trimming, pet nose-to-tail assessments, treat taste tests, and more. Attendees can complete an event map by getting stamps at different stops, and the first 100 to finish will get goodie bags.

Mayor Silberberg and The Pet Show's Dr. Katy Nelson will hold on opening ceremony to begin the festivities.

Alexandria is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the U.S., according to Dogfriendly.com. The city has 18 off-leash public dog parks and over 2,000 pet-friendly rooms in hotels extended stay properties.
