Police Investigating Homicide in Beverley Park
Body found Monday morning at popular playground 'The Pit,' is that of a white Hispanic male, 24, of Alexandria, police said.

Alexandria police are investigating a homicide, after a man was found dead Monday morning at Beverley Park, a popular park for local families known as “The Pit.” The park is located at 620 N. Overlook Dr.

According to several media reports, the man’s throat was slashed. A pedestrian reported finding the body at 8 a.m., according to police. NBC-4 reports a person walking their dog saw the body and they reported it to police.
Police identified the victim as a white Hispanic male, 24, of Alexandria. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the third homicide in Alexandria in 2015.
Virginia State Police are helping with the investigation. Police are using a scanning device from the state police in the investigation.
Roads surrounding the park were closed off Monday at the intersection of South Overlook and North Overlook drives as police investigated the scene.
A neighborhood meeting of the North Ridge Citizens’ Association was already scheduled for Monday night at the Beverley Hills Community United Methodist Church, 3512 Old Dominion Blvd., where police were already expected as well as discussion on renovations at the park.
Chief Earl Cook came to Monday night’s meeting and was also at the crime scene Monday.
Unlike surrounding jurisdictions, the Alexandria Police Department does not publish daily or weekly crime reports that detail local crimes (see Arlington County, Fairfax County, City of Falls Church,Town of Vienna or Fairfax City).
Instead, the department sends Alexandria residents to an online Web site, Raids Online, where crime categories and dates are given, but little else.
