Event Details
The next Del Ray Poetry Reading will take place on Friday, Oct. 2, from 7-9 PM at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, 2300 Mt. Vernon Avenue. Our featured poet is Sarah Carter. After her reading, we’ll open the mics for everyone to read their poems. Our theme this month is “To Know the Dark.” The event is free and open to the public.
About Sarah
Sarah J. Carter is a Mental Health First Aid certified poet and public servant who calls the DMV home. This fall she is celebrating the release of her first traditionally published book, Sisterhood Saved Me, with Pencil x Paper Publishing.
From survivor stories to the medical necessity of a girls’ night, Sisterhood Saved Me is an ode to the friendships that save us, one happy hour and pep talk at a time. Tender yet fiery, this collection grapples with patriarchy and loneliness while reveling in femininity and fun.
She is also the author of a best-selling, self-published poetry collection titled Even In The Grief. Prior to her DC life, Sarah was a student editor for the Appalachian Review while earning a B.A. in English with a focus on Creative Writing at Berea College. She also holds a Master’s in Conflict Resolution from George Mason University.
