Candidates, Deadlines For 2018 Primary Election In Alexandria

Democrats will choose a candidate for mayor, while Republicans choose a challenger to U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine.

Alexandria is ramping up for another election season as the June 12 primary election approaches. While statewide elections happened last year, 2018 elections focus on federal, municipal and school board positions. The primary elections will determine the candidates moving on to the Nov. 6 general election if there are multiple challengers in a political party.

In Alexandria, voters can either participate in the Democratic or Republican primaries. For the Democratic primary, the position of mayor and the six at-large seats on Alexandria City Council are up for grabs. Meanwhile Republicans will choose a candidate to challenge Sen. Tim Kaine in the November general election.
