City Employee Facing Three Felony Charges

Spotsylvania County resident Robert Mains placed on leave without pay.

An employee of Alexandria’s Department of Emergency Communications was put on administrative leave without pay Wednesday after the city was notified the employee was charged with three felonies in Spotsylvania County.

Robert Mains, a city employee for more than 30 years, is charged with forgery, identity theft and using false information to obtain a loan. He is out on bond pending trial.

In October, the Alexandria Police Department initiated an investigation of Mains. He was placed on leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The case was later transferred to Spotsylvania, where Mains lives.

According to a city release, the charges are not related to his work in Alexandria.

Mains joined the Department of Emergency Communications in February, having served elsewhere in the city before that time.
