Coffee With A Cop Planned With Alexandria Police, Sheriff's Office
Alexandria Police and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will join a Coffee with a Cop event in the Del Ray neighborhood.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria Police and the Alexandria Sheriff's Office will participate in Coffee with a Cop Wednesday in the Del Ray neighborhood.
The event will happen from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday at Swing's Coffee, 501 E. Monroe Avenue, Alexandria, VA. All are invited to the event for coffee and conversations with members of both law enforcement agencies.
Coffee with a Cop is part of a nationwide program to build connections between law enforcement and the community. It started in 2011 in Hawthorne, Calif. and expanded to all 50 U.S. states and 33 countries. The annual event is typically held the first Wednesday of October.

"The simple act of having a cup of coffee with community members can be the first step in increasing trust and cooperation between the police and the people they serve," said Ronald Davis, the former Community Oriented Policing Services Office director, on the Coffee with a Cop website.
At the Coffee with a Cop events, community members are encouraged to discuss community issues they feel are important. Alexandria Police have general law enforcement duties in the City of Alexandria, while the Alexandria Sheriff's Office oversees the William G. Truesdale Adult Detention Center, security in the Alexandria Courthouse, serving court legal documents, executing court orders and other law enforcement duties.
