The George Mason community is saddened to share that one of our kindergarten students, Alex Martinez-Avila, lost his mother last week. Alex’s mother passed away last Friday after battling end-stage cancer for many months. In addition to Alex, his mother leaves behind a three-year-old son and 9-month-old baby boy.

Alex’s father has been unable to work full-time due to caring for his wife. As a result, the family is struggling financially to pay rent and other bills. They are also not sure how they will cover funeral expenses.

The money raised through this outreach will be used to ensure that the family is able to cover their expenses while getting back on their feet. In this time of grief, we want to ensure that the family is not in danger of losing their home, and that they can provide the basic necessities for their children.

We hope you will be as generous as you can.
