Del Ray Choir Kids To Perform At Kennedy Center
The Del Ray children's choir usually performs at local events, but this week they will take on a bigger stage at the Kennedy Center.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The Del Ray Kinderchoir will perform at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage Wednesday, May 3 at 6 p.m. The event is free to attend, and no tickets are required.
The choir, made up of kids from first to fourth grade, are opening for the main act Dearborn Community Chorus's “Liberty - A Musical Celebration of Freedom." They will also join the Dearborn, Mich. chorus for its opening and closing number.
Of the choir's 26 children, 21 are performing, according to Kay Sidahmed, the group's artistic director. The mission of the group is to have kids learn musical skills in a noncompetitive environment. Children learn to read and write music, hear and sing intervals, and develop melodic and rhythmic improvisation skills.

Sidahmed said the group got the opportunity because Marcus LaPratt, the artistic director of Dearborn Community Chorus, is the uncle of one of the kids.
"We are excited and immensely grateful for this unique opportunity and experience for the children," she said.
