Del Ray Goes To The Dogs With Next First Thursday Street Festival In 2022

ALEXANDRIA, VA — One of the things Del Ray is known for is being a dog friendly neighborhood. So it's only appropriate the dogs will take over Mount Vernon Avenue for the next First Thursday street festival in May.

This Thursday, First Thursday will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a theme of Dog Days in Del Ray. Bring your furry friend to Mount Vernon Avenue for activities geared toward dogs and their humans. The event is free to attend.

Each month, First Thursday features a different nonprofit. This month will spotlight the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which runs the city's animal shelter as well as community programs to help pet owners. From 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria will have its Waggin' Wheels mobile adoption unit with adoptable animals on site at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Mount Vernon and Oxford Avenues).

First Thursday attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's animal shelter and community pet pantry. Needed items include unopened wet/dry food/treats for cats and dogs, kitty litter, puppy pads, pet toys and fleece blankets. There will also be a monetary donation box onsite. Donations will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square.

First Thursdays are held each first Thursday of the month from April to September.
