Del Ray's 42nd Turkey Trot Set For Thanksgiving Morning

Thousands are anticipated to turn out for the Thanksgiving morning run in Del Ray.

ALEXANDRIA, VA—The 42nd annual Turkey Trot is set for Thanksgiving (Thursday, Nov. 23) at 9 a.m. More than 6,000 are expected to participate in the Del Ray tradition for a bit of healthy fun before the families feast for the holiday.

The race is a flat five-mile course that starts and ends at George Washington Middle School (1005 Mt Vernon Avenue). Runners will head up Mount Vernon Avenue, down Commonwealth Avenue and loop back around again. Roads on the race path will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 9 a.m.-10:15 a.m. See an interactive map of the race here.

Runners will be competing for the top prize of $2,000, which is split by first, second and third place overall and first place for male and female groups. Other prizes are given to first, second and third place age group winners.

Here is the schedule:

  • 7:30 a.m. - Doors open at GW Middle School for registration
  • 8:30 a.m. - Registration closes
  • 8:45 a.m. - Invocation and announcements
  • 9 a.m. - Race starts
  • 10 a.m. - Awards ceremony begins

Participants are asked to bring two nonperishable food items for ALIVE!, a nonprofit organization serving needy people in Alexandria.
