Del Ray's Best Decorated Block, Halloween House Finalists Named

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Although the Del Ray Halloween Parade festivities are remotely based in 2020, one of the favorite neighborhood traditions remains the same.

Finalists have been named for the best decorated Halloween house contest and the new best decorated block contest. Voting will open on Oct. 28 for the people's choice award.

Whether you want to vote or just see some spooky houses, you can stop by the top 10 decorated houses. The Del Ray Business Association published a suggested walking or driving route for the 10 finalists.

• 516 East Nelson Avenue
• 104 West Monroe Avenue
• 8 East Bellefonte Avenue
• 311A East Windsor Avenue
• 4 West Custis Avenue
• 25 West Mt. Ida Avenue
• 15 Forrest Street
• 317 Hume Avenue
• 324 and 326 Laverne Avenue (be sure to clap at the horse)

The finalists for best decorated block are:

• Forrest Street: First unit block
• Ancell Street: First unit block (Homes from 29-45 Ancell)
• East Clifford Avenue: 300 block

Other contests being held are best group costume contest, best pet costume contest and best decorated business contest. Entries for best group costume are due by noon on Nov. 1; best pet costume entries are due on Oct. 28; and business entries were due on Oct. 25.

The other component, a scavenger hunt, launched on Oct. 24. Participants can walk on Mount Vernon Avenue to find Halloween-themed items in Del Ray's murals and decorated businesses. Clues and instructions are available online. Four randomly-selected winners will receive a $50 gift card to their favorite Del Ray business.
