Right now, our country is dependent on coal, a dirty and dangerous source of energy. Coal power plants pollute our communities with soot, smog, mercury, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. This pollution generates a deadly haze, which can trigger asthma attacks, respiratory illnesses, and can contribute to heart disease, cancers and other ailments.
We all have the right to safe, healthy air and water. This year, we have a chance to make sure we transition from coal to renewable energy, like win and solar. Dominion Virginia Power plans to phase out 2 coal plants, which is great news, but they have not made a real commitment to clean energy. Investments in renewable energy will save ratepayers money and create thousands of green jobs for Virginians.
Right now, our energy regulator, the State Corporation Commission, is reviewing their plan and they have the power to make Dominion do the right thing. We need your help to make sure they listen to ratepayers and protect our health and environment.
