Fireworks Near Me: Del Ray’s July 4th 2022

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Cities and counties across the country continue to bring back many of the traditional Independence Day activities that were either canceled or modified the last two years. July 4 is just around the corner, so it's time to find out what Fourth of July fireworks and festivities are going on near you in 2022.

We have all the fireworks shows, parades and festivals happening in and around Del Ray so you can start planning your weekend.

Here's what's in store this July 4 and the surrounding days near Del Ray:

What: USA/Alexandria Birthday Celebration

Where: Oronoco Bay Park, 100 Madison St, Alexandria

When: Saturday, July 9, 6 p.m. to 9:45 p.m., fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

This celebration marks Alexandria's 273rd birthday and the USA’s 246th birthday. A performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra will be held along with cupcakes, local vendors, live music and fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Food truck vendors along Pendleton Street will include Borinquen Lunch Box, Hard Times Café, Big Cheese Gourmet, A&B Soft Serve Ice Cream, and Snowie of Virginia.

The schedule is as follows:

• 6 p.m. - Performance by DJ One Luv
• 7:30 p.m. - Town crier announces Mayor Justin Wilson; poetry reading by Alexandria Poet Laureate Zeina Azzam; acknowledgements
• 8 p.m. - Distribution of birthday cupcakes by members of City Council
• 8:30 p.m. - Performance by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra
• 9:30 p.m. - Grand finale fireworks display

Aside from Oronoco Bay Park, fireworks viewing locations will include Center Canal Plaza; Rivergate Park, 2 Montgomery St.; Founders Park, 351 North Union St.; Waterfront Park, 1A Prince St.; Windmill Hill Park, 501 South Union St.; Fords Landing boardwalk, 99 Franklin St.; Jones Point Park, Jones Point Dr., and George Washington Masonic Temple, 101 Callahan Dr.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to the event. Grilling, pets, smoking, tents, and large or staked umbrellas are not permitted. In case families are separated, an area for lost persons will be located at the City stage.

In the case of inclement weather, only fireworks would be rescheduled on Sunday, July 10, at 9:30 p.m.

What: Rosemont Citizens' Association 4th of July Celebration

Where: Playground at 600 Russell Rd, Alexandria, VA 22301

When: Monday, July 4, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Alexandria’s oldest 4th of July celebration dates back to over 50 years ago. This year's event will have a moon bounce, dunk tank, face painting, live music, and games, a patriotic bike decorating contest and a beautiful baby contest and food from the Rocklands Barbeque and Grilling Company food truck. Volunteers are needed to sign up and help with the event.

What: Workhouse Fireworks

Where: Workhouse Arts Center, 9518 Workhouse Way, Lorton

When: Saturday, July 2, 6 p.m.

This choreographed display of fireworks is the region's largest before July 4. The event will feature a performance of A Night of Wonder featuring Mark G. Meadows at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are required.

What: An American Celebration at Mount Vernon

Where: George Washington's Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon

When: Monday, July 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daytime fireworks at 1 p.m.
Visit Mount Vernon on Independence Day to meet George Washington, watch daytime fireworks, see a performance by the National Concert band, hear 18th century music in the upper garden, enjoy bread from an 18th century baking process and more. At 11 a.m., a naturalization ceremony will feature people around the world becoming U.S. citizens.

What: Fireworks on the National Mall in D.C.

Where: Fireworks will be launched from both sides of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

When: The 17-minute display will be held on Monday, July 4, starting at 9:09 p.m.

There are several places in Virginia to view the show, including Gravelly Point, Key Bridge, and the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Netherlands Carillon. To reach the last three viewing spots, take Metrorail to the Rosslyn station and walk south toward Arlington Cemetery.One of the main fireworks viewing spots in Arlington, the Air Force Memorial, will be closed on Monday, July 4 due to the ongoing Arlington National Cemetery expansion project.

What: 42nd annual Capitol Fourth concert

Where: National Mall

When: The 42nd annual Capitol Fourth concert on PBS will begin at 8 p.m. ET, with country music singer and four-time Grammy-nominee Mickey Guyton serving as host of the event from D.C.Guyton will lead an all-star cast in a patriotic evening of musical performances by top stars from pop, country, R&B, classical and Broadway featuring the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of premier pops conductor Jack Everly.

Capping off the concert broadcast on PBS will be live coverage of the fireworks display on the National Mall captured by multiple cameras stationed around the city.
