George Washington Birthday Parade Canceled

Given the number of parade units that have cancelled due to extreme temperatures, the George Washington Birthday Parade in Alexandria scheduled for Monday, Feb. 16, has been cancelled, according to a news release from the City. Here’s more about the cancellation from the release:

Special temporary parking restrictions placed along the parade route will not be enforced, although crews may not be able to remove all signs prior to Monday afternoon.

As a reminder of normal holiday procedure, the Alexandria Police Department will suspend enforcement of parking restrictions at metered spaces and residential permit parking districts on Feb. 16. This suspension of enforcement applies only to the restrictions at legal parking spaces, and does not permit parking in any location normally prohibited (for example, no parking zones, loading zones, or spaces for persons with disabilities). HOV lane restrictions will also be suspended on Feb. 16.

Please take time to check on any neighbors in need to make sure they’re able to stay warm. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, and closely follow manufacturer safety instructions for any heating devices.
